The people of Jerusalem followed a longstanding tradition of weeping and fasting, but they were unclear why and for whom they were doing it. As they ask God for clarification in Zechariah 7:1-4, we see what God really wants from them – and us – instead of blindly following traditions and engaging in things He never commanded us to do.
