EP 37 How the Historical Setting Conditions Our Thinking

How much of our thinking is conditioned by the historical setting? We have already mentioned how our way of thinking is conditioned by our personal developmental traumas.  In episode 6 we talked about the sadness in the schizoid structure.  But how much of our intuition and our insights are just reiterations of what has already happened in similar historical settings and not really particular to us?In this episode I take a look at two intuitions that are strong in me.  One is that of knowing who we are.  The other is to move towards unity and thereby especially love and a heart-centered way of being, instead of separation such as fear. Then we go back to Vedas, stop in ancient Athens at the beginning of democracy, look at what Socrates was trying to achieve and his connection to uncertainty, Plato and his egoically highjacked prisoners in the cave, how Hellenistic turmoil led the philosophers to become therapists, like the Stoics, only to finish with Augustinus and the turmoil of the fall of Rome.If you find this historical digression interesting you will enjoy John Vervaeke´s youtube series on "Awakening from the Meaning Crisis", where he discusses many of these and many, many other fascinating issues.Throughout all we see the repetition of these themes, expressed in terms that were pertinent to the particular times.  And so, the two intuitions that happen to arise inside of me, are just an expression of our times.   There is nothing particularly original  or personal to them.  We can use this realisation and thus loosen our grip on our insights and realisations and our instinct to identify with them.  We are truly beyond them.  And perhaps in these times more of us will ultimately be able to realise this and bring about a substantial transformation. If you have any comments, questions, or suggestions for the podcast you can contact me on Instagram @BasiasThoughts.  And, of course, if you would like to see more content from me do sponsor me on https://www.patreon.com/basia because that will allow me to focus more on content creation.
