How does Zen Buddhism connect emptiness and buddha nature? What is Pure Land Buddhism, and how do its followers practice? Zen and Pure Land Buddhism (like all other branches of Mahayana Buddhism) teach that emptiness and buddha nature are the basic qualities of reality. "Emptiness" means that we're empty of inherent existence -- in other words, the small selves we identify with aren't our true nature. Instead, all beings have buddha nature, a luminous aspect of our being that is what we truly are. In this video, I'll explain how these two major schools of Mahayana Buddhism bring the doctrines of emptiness and buddha nature into their practice to help followers wake up to joy.
