Building Live 2018 - What do Millennials want?

What do Millennials really want? The skills crisis continues to grip the construction industry as we’ve never seen it before. With more professionals within the industry retiring and a dearth of skilled workers choosing to join the sector, it has never been more important for firms to figure out how to attract - and more importantly, retain young professionals. Alinea’s Iain Parker was joined at this year’s Building Live conference by two member’s of Building’s recently-formed graduate panel - Emily Scoones, a structural computational design engineer at Ramboll, and Victoria Caines, a senior cost consultant at Mace. Listen to some of that session here, as we try and find out what makes the next generation tick in the workplace. Music was by Broke for Free, used under the Creative Commons licence. The Building Talks Net Zero series, brought to you by the team at http://Building.co.uk, will feature influencers and disrupters who are key to finding solutions to the climate emergency. In the year the UK hosts COP26, the biggest ever climate change conference, the construction industry is focused on the carbon agenda like never before. Each of our guests will bring their unique perspective on the challenges ahead, how to tackle them and most importantly how to affect real change. This series will be co-hosted by Building’s editor Chloe McCulloch and Building Design’s assistant editor Elizabeth Hopkirk. As well as in-depth interviews each week, Chloe and Elizabeth will be joined by Simon Wyatt, sustainability partner at Cundall to unpick some net zero jargon and sort the greenwash from tangible action.
