The Stabat Mater by Alessandro Scarlatti is a religious musical work composed for two voices, two violins, and basso continuo in 1724. The work was commissioned by the Order of Friars Minor for Lent and meditates on the suffering of Mary, mother of Christ. Scarlatti set the Stabat Mater three times. The work was replaced by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater in 1736. Scarlatti's Stabat Mater is considered outdated by those who commissioned it. Scarlatti was one of the first exponents of the Neapolitan School and composed over 600 cantatas, 150 oratories, and 115 operas.Help support our show by purchasing this album  at:Downloads (classicalmusicdiscoveries.store) Classical Music Discoveries is sponsored by Uber and Apple Classical. @CMDHedgecock#ClassicalMusicDiscoveries #KeepClassicalMusicAlive#CMDGrandOperaCompanyofVenice #CMDParisPhilharmonicinOrléans#CMDGermanOperaCompanyofBerlin#CMDGrandOperaCompanyofBarcelonaSpain#ClassicalMusicLivesOn#Uber#AppleClassical Please consider supporting our show, thank you!Donate (classicalmusicdiscoveries.store) [email protected]
