Growing up on the south side of Chicago can be difficult. Knowing somebody whose been affected by gun violence is normal, drugs seem to be ravaging the streets, and supporting a family seems to be next to impossible. To make matters worse, getting caught in the crosshairs of gang violence is an everyday thing. 11-year-old Yummy Sandifer was a young kid with very little guidance in life. With 9 siblings, his father in prison, and his mother struggling with addiction, he was forced to live in a children's shelter after being placed with his grandmother didn't work out. After running away from the shelter, Yummy dropped out of school and began roaming the streets. It was there that he fell right into the lap of a gang leader. He began stealing, fighting, and even carrying a gun all before he became a teenager. But when Yummy was ordered by a gang leader to carry out a hit against a rival member, he botches it and accidentally kills an innocent person.
