A Deep Dive into the Model Based Environment
Digital Enterprise Society Podcast - En podcast af Digital Enterprise Society
What does the ‘E’ in MBE actually stand for? On this episode of the Digital Enterprise Society podcast, we are focusing on the model based environment and the role that it plays in today’s rapidly changing technology. Today Thom Singer and Craig Brown are joined by subject matter expert and Model Based Engineering Technical Authority at LMI Ben Kassel for a deep dive into the critical role of the model based environment, including areas of growth within the model based definition and a look at whether humans might actually be removed from the engineering equation anytime soon. On today’s podcast, you will learn: Defining the ‘E’ in MBE The model based definition is the foundation of all other parts. Without the virtual side of the model based data, there is no digital twin. Model based technical data is the model based definition. The model based environment enables a model based enterprise to practice model based engineering. The model based environment is powered by the model based definition for core data. This product model is the technical DNA of an enterprise. Understanding MBE MBE plays an integral role in the supply chain. Emphasis has always been on design and manufacturing within CAD. Models of sustainment need to play a greater role in this equation. Different technologies have created limiting silos that need to be overcome. Finding a place for model based technical data Should data be developed from the perspective of the application? When the product is developed from the perspective of the application we neglect to define the product from the perspective of the actual product. If products are defined from the perspective of the products behaviors and functional characteristics, these new technologies will not work. A combination of data forms transforms the stereotypical CAD model into a product model. The product data manager has the ability to integrate the external with the internal. Further MBE insights Material properties play a significant role in the mechanical design and need to be included in the technical data. Various emerging tools show that true integration has not yet been achieved. Does engineering need to change to accommodate the all-inclusive industry? Humans are not going to be eliminated from the equation any time soon. Continue the conversation with us within the Digital Enterprise Society Community at www.DigitalEnterpriseSociety.org.
