Trans rights and the pursuit for inclusion: The Shaneel Lal story

Duncan Garner - Editor-In-Chief: Live - En podcast af rova | Original

Shaneel Lal is a law student, model, influencer and the current Young New Zealander of the Year. They are also one of the country's most prominent campaigners for trans and queer rights. Their journey, from being subjected to conversion therapy in Fiji to becoming a celebrated figure in New Zealand's trans community, makes for a compelling narrative that sheds light on the struggles and triumphs within the trans community. Encounters with transphobia, the high suicide rates among young queer people, and the lack of adequate support resonate deeply, reinforcing the importance of empathy and understanding. I'll admit, I had some preconceptions about Shaneel before this interview. But they shattered them, and this ended up being one of the most enlightening conversations of my career.  So, gear up for a thought-provoking journey into the world of a young activist, and the broader society that has had such a profound effect on their life.
