Apple released software updates for iPhones, iPads and Macs on Wednesday that fix two security vulnerabilities known by Apple to be actively exploited by attackers, TechCrunch reports. Google also released a security update, to the Stable channel of its Chrome browser. And Flipkart Ventures has picked six startups for the second batch of its 16-week accelerator programme. Notes: Apple released software updates for iPhones, iPads and Macs on Wednesday that fix two security vulnerabilities known by Apple to be actively exploited by attackers, TechCrunch reports. The two vulnerabilities were found in WebKit, the browser engine that powers Safari and other apps, and the kernel, essentially the core of the operating system. The two flaws affect both iOS and iPadOS, and macOS Monterey. Apple said the WebKit bug could be exploited if a vulnerable device accessed or processed “maliciously crafted web content [that] may lead to arbitrary code execution,” while the second bug allowed a malicious application “to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges,” which means full access to the device. The two flaws are believed to be related, according to TechCrunch. Meanwhile, in more incremental news about Apple’s new iOS 16 iPhone software, expected in September, a new feature will be the ability to edit and unsend text messages. That means you’ll be able to go back and correct a typo or delete a message if you sent it to the wrong person. And the person you’re texting will see the updated text, or that you’ve deleted a message — so long as they’re also running iOS 16, according to CNBC. The feature is already available in public beta but otherwise, iPhone users will see it once the software is released to everyone next month. This feature will work on iPhones released in 2017 or later. Apple’s iPhone 14 is also expected next month. Google also released a security update on Wednesday. The company announced an update to the Stable channel of its Chrome browser that includes a fix for an exploit that exists in the wild, as Ars Technica put it. The exploit was reported by Ashley Shen and Christian Resell of the Google Threat Analysis Group. Google says the update will "roll out over the coming days/weeks," but you can (and should) manually update Chrome now, Ars Technica recommends, by checking the "About" section of your settings. Google’s Android 13 software is also rolling out this week. Flipkart Ventures, a $100 million venture fund set up by Walmart company Flipkart, yesterday named six startups as part of its accelerator programme - Flipkart Leap Ahead. The six startups will receive an equity investment of up to $500,000 from Flipkart and will undergo a mentorship program delivered through a customized curriculum, which has been designed by Bain & Company, Flipkart said in a press release. At the end of the 16-week programme, the startups will present their ideas to potential investors and industry leaders on a Demo Day. The six startups are Dopplr, Livwell, LogisticsNow, NeuroPixel.AI, Rightbot Technologies, and Sellerapp. Theme music courtesy Free Music & Sounds: https://soundcloud.com/freemusicandsounds
