"Islamo-gauchisme" Explained

In this episode of Hidden Paris, Yasser Louati and I sit down to discuss the term "Islamo-gauchisme" (Islamo-leftism in English), a word that has been making headlines across France in recent weeks. We discuss the history of France's relationship with its Muslim community, Laïcité, the events leading up to France introducing the Muslim veil ban, the recent debate between Marine Le Pen (the leader of France's far-right Front National party) & Gérald Darmanin (France's Minister of the Interior) and much more. Check out Yasser on Instagram at @realyasserlouati, on Twitter at @yasserlouati and on Facebook. You can follow his organisation, the Comité Justice et Liberté Pour Tous, on Twitter at @justicelibertes. Yasser also hosts two podcasts, one in English called Le Breakdown and the other in French called Les Idées Libres. If you would like to learn more about France's historical treatment of its Muslim population over the past century, check out this article that I wrote back in December : France: Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité & Laicité...but not for Muslims? For more tips on places to visit in and around Paris, follow me on Instagram: @hiddenparispodcast.

Om Podcasten

Hidden Paris is a podcast for all lovers and residents of Paris, hosted by British/American expat (reared in Ireland, Italy and the US!) Mariamne Everett. I take you with me on my journey as I discover the hidden and off the beaten track places and aspects of the City of Love. Each episode focuses on the history and background of the place, mixed in with healthy doses of fun conversation. You will also have the opportunity to “meet” people on my broadcast, as the listeners introduce themselves and talk about what brought them to Paris.
