Ep 108: A Chile freeze on betting sponsorships?

iGaming Daily - En podcast af SBC Media

The government of Chile has ordered sporting bodies and organisations to abide by the ruling of the Supreme Court related to the current legal status of online gambling activities, which will have ramifications for sponsorships from the gambling sector. While the South American nation is in the process of legislating online gambling, in September a Supreme Court judgement upheld a challenge by state-owned lottery and pools operator Polla Chilena de Beneficencia, which urged judges to deem “online gambling as an illegal activity”. Chile's football association, the ANFP, have expressed disagreement with the ruling, and have been given until the end of the month to terminate Betsson's title sponsorship with their Primera División, while Betway have already parted way with five clubs with whom they signed with in January of 2022. To discuss the decision, the financial ramifications this could have on Chilean football, and the full details behind the story, Joe Streeter, editor of InsiderSport welcomes SBC Noticias' Fernando Noodt, and SBC's Head of B2B Media LatAm Lucía Mouriño to provide context and expertise on Chile and the rest of the region regarding legislation and sponsorship. Host: Joe StreeterGuests: Fernando Noodt, Lucía MouriñoProducer: Anaya McDonaldEditor: Anaya McDonaldAll eyes on Miami next for SBC, as we turn our attention towards SBC Summit Latinoamérica.
