This week on the Live to Walk Again podcast Jerimie and Ricardo discuss two new research projects going on with huge implications for spinal cord injury recovery and an interesting sports related SCI fundraising campaign. The first study is based on an existing AstraZeneca drug that could potentially reduce swelling at the injury site after spinal cord injury but also block harmful enzymes that attack the injury area and even restore neural growth. The second study looks at an interesting new neural probe that is 1/5 the size of a strand of hair that has the capability of both electrical stimulation and recording neural messages and stimulating different parts of the brain and spinal cord in real time. The third story we discussed is about everyone's favorite Formula One driver Max Verstappen donating his personal car to raise money for the spinal cord injury charity, Wings for Life.
