Episode 132 - The Fallacy of White Thinking

In the current overheated climate of political polarization, Michael Meade takes up an African trickster tale in order to show how easily people can be divided and turned against each other and even against their own self-interest.  The old story involves a hat that is black on one side and white on the other with people only seeing the side that is closest to them. That leads to an examination of "whiteness" as part of a “fallacy of color” that continues to cause pain and confusion throughout our culture. After considering the troubles at America's southern border and the constant tweet storms arising from the President's borderline tendencies, Meade leads us back to the old wisdom story in search of ways to point to and edify the underlying unity of all humanity.
