A school teacher in a suburb of Paris was beheaded by an Islamic extremist on October 16 after he showed his class a political cartoon depicting Muhammed, while teaching a lesson on free speech. Days later, three people in Nice were killed, one of which was beheaded, by a different Islamic extremist. This has all brought up the question of who has the right-of-way when religion and free speech go head-to-head? The French government is defending their citizen's "right to offend" and is sticking by the country's strong free speech laws. At the same time, Muslims across the world are protesting France for allowing the cartoons to be published.
