In January 2009, Smith, then a Detachment Commander for the 3rd Special Forces Group, headed to Afghanistan. It was during this deployment that Smith lost several teammates, with one really hitting him hard. He shares this story and how difficult it was to deal with the aftermath. Blayne learned so much from his time serving with the men on his team and the importance of trust. He uses his experiences to talk about how every leader should C.A.R.E. for their people. Blayne is a West Point graduate and former Special Forces officer, Smith served combat tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He was the distinguished honor graduate of the Army’s Ranger School and has earned numerous military awards including three Bronze Stars, one with “V” device for valor.
