However, the next big earthquake that could lead to a financial crisis is more likely to be caused by commercial real estate. “Not in my backyard” – the infamous N.I.M.B.Y. statement from the 2009 GFC can already be heard echoing in vacant office buildings across the country, even those that have benefitted from lockdown relocations. But, when the dominoes start to fall it has the potential to take everyone out in the process. Meanwhile, hot takes earlier in the week that the Fed was done hiking were quickly cooled on Friday when PPI (Producers Price Index) suggested the inflation fire is not done burning. The Fed looks to be backed into a corner and if they continue to battle “sticky inflation” with more rate hikes, then banks are f—ed.
