Paul Benjamin has recently been named Chair of the Board Of Directors of The Blues Foundation. The Board Committee just announced the hiring of Barbara Ballin Newman as President/CEO. Pauls background with the Blues is well-known. He is owner of Time Out Pub in Rockland, Maine. He is the co-founder of the The North Atlantic Blues Festival and offers consulting services to festivals nationwide. He was awarded a Mississippi Trail Marker from the State of Mississippi for his 32 yrs of showcasing Mississippi born artists in Maine, 1 of 8 markers located outside of Mississippi. Barbara is a fourth-generation Memphian. A fourth generation Memphian, and has a background in accounting and corporate finance from her tenure with New York-based National Westminster Bank. Upon returning to her native Memphis in 1989, Newman began nonprofit work with the Bornblum Solomon Schechter School board of directors, serving as treasurer, vice-president of both administration and fundraising, and president. Since 2007, Newman has been Executive Director of Beth Sholom Synagogue, handling financial administration, communications, human resources, and facility management. Newman is also a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and Folk Alliance International. Her husband is local music attorney Bruce Newman, of the firm Newman, DeCoster.
