COVID-19. It’s August 2020. Months ago, I think we were all hopeful that the virus would be something of the past. But it didn’t go away. Obviously, we could debate all of the reasons why that may be but here we are. The summer has nearly passed us by and fall sports practices, for some, are now upon us. Sports at the youth level have been going in parts of the country for several months. The NHL and NBA have restarted in their bubbles with relative success so far. Major League Baseball is a different story with the local St Louis Cardinals missing over a week over baseball now, other teams having to sit and the Miami Marlins having to sit out and now on a winning streak with a reshuffled lineup. As of August 8, the first Power 5 conference, the MAC, announced it was canceling fall sports, Division II and Division III have cancelled fall sports championships. The Big Ten announced it is pausing advancing on football workouts. So where do we go from here with sports. Sometimes they seem trivial in the big picture of things but there are many things about sports that certainly all of the guests on my pod today long for. We’ll touch on where we’ve come from over the last several months, where we are and speculate about where we go from here.
