The Transgender Athlete

  We have seen a lot in recent years that seems to be polarizing this country. More than I have ever witnessed in my nearly half century on this planet. In the last few years, an area that seems to be growing in its polarization in the world of sports is how to approach a transgender athlete, particularly from the standpoint of participation. It’s easy for any of us to rush to a conclusion as to what may seem like the easy way out, as many states have been attempting….to just outright ban the participation of transgender athletes in sport. But should we be discouraging anyone from participation in a sport?  As I’ve learned over the years, we need to first listen and learn, before making a decision that can affect the lives and especially mental well-being of the lives of our youth.
