The juggle of motherhood and work is real with Executive Editor of Mamamia Leigh Campbell.

In this episode of the Powerful Stories Podcast, we had the opportunity to hear from Executive Editor of Mamamia, wife and mother of an active toddler, Leigh Campbell. We jump right into the 3 most powerful steps Leigh has ever taken to get what she wanted – ‘Taking a leap into digital was such a big step along with starting my Podcast ‘You Beauty,’ the number one beauty podcast in Australia, with over 6 million downloads. ‘The third was becoming a mother – it was the hardest step but it has been the best one.’ And, Leigh gives us a snapshot of her day. For those women who feel they don’t have a voice, Leigh offers us top 3 tips for being heard as a leader and wife. ‘If you’re in a relationship or a job where you feel you are not being heard or respected - perhaps it is time for a new audience.’ Tory and Leigh met when Leigh was a beauty editor - she is a walking Wikipedia of tips and tricks. Her passion for beauty came from having to defend the role as it is often written off as being shallow. Leigh explains, ‘There is power in cosmetics. They give women the ability to control their self-care- and that is not to be discounted.’ We then hear Leigh’s ritual for self-care and her hot tips for how we can keep it simple and achieve that glow. Covid has had a big impact on all of our beauty routines. We discuss Zoom calls vs the corporate dress code Leigh says - ‘The best zoom beauty tip is good lighting; it will save you so much time.’ Leigh’s hair turned grey in her 20’s (which we find out is quote common and often genetic) and suggests a simple ten-minute root touch-up to easily maintain your hair when in lockdown. Leigh has three beauty products she always keeps in her handbag. ‘Well, to start there is absolutely no point spending money on serums, lotions and facials if you don’t wear sunscreen every day as it is the number 1 anti-aging skincare product.’ So, sunscreen, along with a sharp brow pencil and concealer are Leigh’s go-to items. ‘Dry shampoo is also your best friend – pop your hair in a mum bun and your good to go for a few more days.’ She also explains that ‘During hormone changes your estrogen rises and falls which can be the cause of cracked heels in a lot of women- milky foot is amazing – but do it in winter as your feet will peel.’ Leigh takes a new perspective on the topic of self-care – which she explains, for her, does not mean mani-pedis. ‘I see my therapist and make sure my scripts are up to date. It is the less glamorous side of caring for yourself but so important’ says Leigh. Women are always on – It is so hard to put yourself first but good eating, sleep and exercise, while common, really do make all the difference. So, what had Leigh learnt over the last few years? ‘You don’t get to your late 30’s without learning a lot – I’ve realised that I only answer to myself and that my family comes first. I don’t have to apologise for saying no and I don’t need to explain saying 'no' if it doesn’t serve me.’ So, sit back and enjoy this powerful story with the extraordinary Leigh Campbell.   Links: Sign up to the Powerful Steps #coffeechallenge to gain Tory’s proven formula for building a global network, with three coffee dates a week.
