Watch out – burn out is real and leads to perimenopause with supermodel Alison Brahe.

In this episode of the Powerful Stories Podcast, we had the opportunity to hear from supermodel Alison Brahe. Alison was Australia’s very own supermodel and there was a not magazine cover she didn’t appear on. She married the man of her dreams and moved to Los Angeles to pursue what everyone calls the American dream. While juggling 3 kids and a husband in the limelight – she also wanted to pursue her own dreams. ‘My dream was to be a mum, so I was living the dream – the challenge that I was doing it on my own most of the time’. It wasn’t until her babies were older that she got back into the workforce – working as a birth assistant. Tory, like so many other women, started to experience perimenopause after running at a rapid pace in life. Adrenal fatigue became a huge factor for Tory and Alison explains that it happens to so many other women in their 30s and 40s, she is even writing a book on the topic - ‘Miserable magical menopause’ which is due to be released in 2021. ‘Our grandmothers usually stayed at home and later in life they worked at a slower pace’ so unlike their generation women now are busier and as a result, their adrenal systems are taxed. There are 34 symptoms of perimenopause – they range from hot flashes, loss of libido, intolerance to hot and cold, vaginal atrophy and weight gain. Alison gives us her tips for managing symptoms including using lube during sex, managing a dry vagina, loss of libido and how to keep the spark in the bedroom alive. We need to remember that your hormones are shifting so ‘I would recommend going to your Doctor, as a starting point, and get a full bloodwork done – then you can understand your hormones levels and adjust your lifestyle to accommodate your needs.’ To break through the menopause barrier, we need to slow ourselves down – the biggest challenge for women is embracing their bodies. ‘It is just taking stock of how you are feeling – ask yourself if you are succeeding in taking care of your body.’ She says, ‘sleep is the cornerstone to everything when it comes to perimenopause. It is not something you can ignore – it is a turning point in women’s lives and I think it is for the better’. As women, we are always giving to others and in the process, we can sacrifice our bodies. “You can’t give from an empty well.” Break the pattern and put yourself first so you can care for others. And finally, we hear the most powerful step Alison ever took. ‘Going to a therapist set my life on a different course and it changed my life. I now understand myself from a deep-seated place.’ So, sit back and enjoy this powerful story with our very own menopause advocate, Alison Brahe   Links: Sign up to the Powerful Steps #coffeechallenge to gain Tory’s proven formula for building a global network, with three coffee dates a week.
