What do you do with big boobs? Tory Archbold interviews Rachael Calvert.

In this episode of the Powerful Stories Podcast, we sit down with Rachael Calvert, creator of Marvell Lane. Today we are taking boobs! Rachel has had a life-long difficulty when it comes to the size of her breasts and, it’s not just her. Jessica Simpson recently called out the micro-aggressions which are directed at busty women on a daily basis. Rachael agrees - they should not be made to feel excluded and should embrace their bodies.  Rachael grew up in Katherine in the Northern Territory and shares the constant battle of being blessed with a larger than average breast size, in a hot climate. She had always encountered a problem – Bikini tops that fit. ‘I was wearing a swimming top I had held onto for years, which I was wearing twice a day in Byron when it broke on me.’ She had to purchase a size 16 top which was too big around the shoulders and the back. Her husband turned to her and said - why don’t you do something about it? ‘Need and desperation drove me to do something about it and now we have Marvell Lane 3 years later’ says Rachael.  Thousands of women have brought her Bikini’s. Marvell Lane has 30 size variations from a D-cup all the way up to an H-cup. Fitting a woman into the correct size is a challenge. ‘We have a virtual fitting service’ but the issue comes as most women are in the wrong size bra. Women should be allowed to feel sexy and youthful, regardless of their age. Rachael says, ‘It hasn’t been easy and, I solved this problem essentially selfishly – but the messages we receive makes it all worthwhile and the feedback is beautiful.’  We quiz Racheal for her top breast tips. Bikini or one piece? Racheal has seen so many women come in looking for a one-piece, but when they find a bikini that fits, they fall in love! Dress shopping for big boobs, as Tory has experienced, is so difficult. ‘Bias-cut dresses have come back into fashion. So, you can size up and still have shape.’ Are big boobs too sexy? ‘No. We need to unpack all the programming that we have had thrown at us for years. All (a big busted woman) is doing is turning up in the body she has been given’ says Rachael.  Racheal opens up about her transition from being a lawyer in the corporate world, and how the sudden loss of her brother to suicide challenged her thinking. ‘Losing my brother re-set all of my values. I was no longer interested in the corporate world and just wanted try work out a way to be happy and exist in the world with meaning.’ The experience with her brother really transformed Rachael into the powerful woman she is today. ‘I always want people to feel good about themselves and value themselves.’  So, let’s talk boobs and peri-menopause. ‘First, you need to get re-fitted, but second, your silhouette will change but it doesn’t mean you cannot access fashion – you just need to work with your new shape in a way that makes you feel comfortable’ says Rachael. Breast reductions are a hot topic among busty women. ‘I looked at getting one, but the only reason was the lack of access to fashion. And this is something I want to change'. This is why Marvell Lane will be releasing a lingerie range.  So, sit back and enjoy this powerful story with the extraordinary Rachael Calvert.  Links: Sign up to the Powerful Steps #coffeechallenge to gain Tory’s proven formula for building a global network, with three coffee dates a week.
