I actually learned this from an ebook written by a doctor (whose name I can't recall) that specializes in sleep. Here's what you do: Focus on relaxing every little muscle in your body from your head to your toes. Start at the crown of your head. Then work your way to relaxing your neck muscles. Down to your shoulders, chest, back, abdomen, hips, glutes, legs, calves, ankles, and toes. Imagine you're in a sci-fi movie with one of those circular beams around you scanning your body from head to toe. As you're doing this, focus on breathing full, slow, and deep rather than short and shallow breaths. Why this works: Think about it... Where your attention goes, energy flows. By doing these two things consistently, you aren't thinking "how am I ever going to fall asleep?!" Instead, you're focusing on relaxing and de-stressing which in turn, will lead you to deeper sleep, faster!
