An inner ear disorder that causes episodes of vertigo (spinning).Ménière's disease usually starts in one ear, but later may involve both. Smoking, infections or a high-salt diet may worsen the disease.Symptoms include a spinning sensation (vertigo), hearing loss, ear ringing (tinnitus) and ear pressure. The vertigo may cause severe nausea and imbalance. Hearing loss may become permanent.Drugs for motion sickness or nausea may help manage symptoms. Meniere's disease is an inner ear problem that can cause dizzy spells, also called vertigo, and hearing loss. Most of the time, Meniere's disease affects only one ear. Meniere's disease can happen at any age. But it usually starts between the ages of 40 to 60.
