Memories are believed to be stored in two separate parts of the brain, the hippocampus and the amygdala. While normal memories are stores in the hippocampus, the amygdala, which is an emotion center, is where memories created by traumatic events live. If you are the victim of violence and your brain and hippocampus has been damaged, this means you might not be able to clearly remember the person that has caused you that trauma. However, the memories stored in the amygdala would most likely make you feel uneasy if you ever met them again, although you would not be able to put your finger on why...
