In this episode, I'm joined by serial entrepreneur, Avnish Goyal. Avnish’s desire to make a difference is the fuel that has helped to create many of his achievements. He was raised by parents, Santosh and Hemraj who instilled in him a strong set of values of industry, integrity and ingenuity which have set him in good stead for building one the most respected companies in social care in the UK, Hallmark Care Homes, and won him and his team many awards and accolades. More recently, he decided to diversify into building and operating retirement villages under the brand of Santhem Residences. The care homes and care villages are being built through the construction arm Savista Developments which he also set up in 2018 to manage the expansion. Avnish’s vision is to transform the social care sector for older people and to make a difference in a world where everyone has the same opportunities irrespective of their gender, class, race or sexual orientation. Avnish is now a recognized speaker on topics such as entrepreneurship, personal development and building culture and performance in the workplace. We talk about where Avnish's drive came from; reflecting on his upbringing and roots, he shares how life in Essex and coming from very little shaped his character. How the influence for the work he does today began at a young age when he began to stand up for himself and leadership of his Mother's unwavering attitude towards education for her children. Avnish is focused on excellence and he shares his approach towards being the best at something and the key difference between actually being the best and 'trying to be the best'. Much of his early success in property can be attributed to this virtue and how his more recent endeavours are benefitting from this attitude is truly inspiring. We finally talk about his philanthropy and our relationship, with him, of course, being my husband. Talking on the Vision Board Workshop that we are both currently preparing for, we talk about the inspiration behind these workshops and others like it that we host and hopefully do a good job at convincing anyone listening to join us, for free, on January 10th 2021!
