Henry Schniewind discusses Safety is Freedom

Safety is Freedom defines an attitude and an approach to risk management. We have talked about this at Henry’s Avalanche Talk ever since we started. Now we are launching these webinars to explore the subject of risk management and decision making through the experiences of successful people in adventure sports, business, finance, medicine, healthcare. Safety and Freedom can be seen as opposites. But is that right? It is only by feeling safe that we are free to enjoy our support, to succeed in business, to invest for growth and to provide medical care. Every two weeks (or more often) we will speak with someone with experience and insights on managing risk and staying safe so you can have more fun or enjoy more success. Much of this will come from the world of snowsports and mountain adventure. But we plan to talk with people from other sports and the world of finance, medical practice, airline pilots and business. In this first webinar in the series, we will interview Henry and ask him to tell us why he believes the mantra Safety is Freedom and his top 3 or 4 principles of risk management when off-piste. Perhaps, even more interesting for those of us waiting to go skiing, is to get Henry’s personal update on what is happening in Savoie with COVID and when does he think that the authorities will feel able to take the risk of opening the ski resorts and what sort of criteria would guide such a decision.
