Trial begins for French surgeon accused of abusing 299 people, mostly child patients

A retired surgeon has gone on trial in France, accused of raping and sexually assaulting hundreds of young patients, some while they were under anaesthetic. The trial comes at a time of reckoning around sex crimes in France after the recent conviction of Dominique Pelicot, who had drugged and abused his wife and invited dozens of other men to assault her too.
