Women Get the Vote!

Steel Magnolias Podcast - En podcast af Laura Beth Peters and Lainie Stubblefield - Tirsdage

The date this episode releases (August 18) marks the 100 year anniversary of women winning the right to vote in the U.S. and the final state to pass ratification was Tennessee.    The Hermitage Hotel in Nashville, TN (where it all unfolded) is inviting both visitors and locals alike to learn about the events that transpired leading up to the ratification of the 19th Amendment.  We sat down with managing director of the hotel, Dee Patel, to collect stories of suffragists and anti-suffragists that stayed in the hotel 100 years ago today.    Dee Patel was born and raised in Coventry, England, attended high school in Mississippi and graduated at age 16. From there, she headed to Johnson and Wales University in Charleston, South Carolina, and spent time working for The Jefferson in Richmond, Virginia, after graduation. In 2003, she made her way to Nashville,  joined the The Hermitage Hotel and 17 years later, Dee serves as the first female Managing Director of the hotel!   A fantastic 1 hour documentary put together by Nashville Public Television called BY ONE VOTE highlights the role the south - specifically NASHVILLE played in passing the right for women to vote.
