Extreme heatwave risks as highs of above 40C possible

The UK could reach temperatures as high as 40 degree celsius today as the Met Office has issued a red weather alert. Hammersmith Bridge in London has been covered with foil to protect it from the heat, after the sun caused cracks in the the 135-year-old structure to expand back in 2020.
