Arduino is an iconic open source project that played a critical role in creating a breed of embedded developers by making it easy to interact with digital electronics. “The trick was to basically not tell them that they were embedded developers,” said Banzi. Banzi, who also teaches interactive design in Europe, has been working on making it easier to interact with things that are being developed using digital electronics. Arduino summarized all the research work that he had done over ages. Arduino revolutionized the embedded electronics space and triggered a makers movement. The open source 3D printer that I use is powered by Arduino; my RC car runs on Arduino. “The first people who used Arduino were designers, artists, musicians, performers. It started off as a highly creative tool and then it became a tool for people to also innovate on products. Arduino enabled thousands of people to start using electronics as a tool to innovate and create companies,” he said. Now Arduino is entering the next phase of its evolution. With the explosive growth of IoT devices, Arduino now wants to bring the same ease of use and tooling to the IoT community.
