Episode 57: Renaming Fort Bragg

Fort Bragg is set to change its name.   The 2021 National Defense Authorization Act, passed by Congress last year, mandates the renaming of US military bases named after Confederate Soldiers. As a result, these 10 military bases will have a new name in the coming years: Camp Beauregard, Louisiana;  Fort Benning, Georgia; Fort Gordon, Georgia; Fort Hood, Texas; Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia; Fort Lee, Virginia; Fort Pickett, Virginia; Fort Polk, Louisiana; Fort Rucker, Alabama; and Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where this podcast is recorded.   For this episode, Episode 57, Colonel Scott Pence, garrison commander for Fort Bragg, joins host Joe Buccino to explain the process by which a new name will be selected. He also describes how he is soliciting feedback from veterans who've served on Fort Bragg as well as the surrounding community.   Colonel Pence is working closely with the Renaming Commission, an 8-member panel selected by Congress to oversee the process of renaming these 10 bases. In so doing, he seeks feedback from you, the listener.
