The Digital Edge (1): Spar Nords ambitious digitalization

At Spar Nord, one of the largest Danish banks, Senior Vice President of Communication & Business Development Ole Madsen is right in the middle of Spar Nords ambitious digitalization.

Its a transformation project that Ole calls "one of the most ambitious in the world right now" - and a project that aims to change the way Spar Nord adopts new technology - and the way that the bank interacts with the customers.

Its a huge undertaking as few industries face the same massive challenges as the financial sector. For now.

The sector was originally on the very forefront of the early digitalization: Mainframes took over from dusty ledgers and home-banking accelerated the closure of the traditional local branches.

The banks that mastered the transition prospered in the wake of the massive savings.

Fast forward to 2019 and it is - ironically - the very digital nature of money that challenges the modern financial institutions - as they struggle to adopt new technologies while fending off new digital players, looking to capture a slice of the most profitable products.

So thank you for listening as we on The Digital Edge - together with Ole Madsen - explore how Spar Nord is meeting the digital challenge.

Om Podcasten

The adoption and usage of technology are going through a radical transformation. Just a decade ago investment in the right technology was often enough to gain that crucial competitive edge. But the increasingly tough competition, the accelerating technological development, and the mounting complexity now demand new ways of choosing, adopting, and handling technology in the enterprise. The possibilities - and the challenges - are the main theme of The Digital Edge, a podcast created by Computerworld Denmark & SAP focusing on leadership, strategy, and business in the accelerating digital age. Hosting the podcast is Computerworld's editor-in-chief Lars Jacobsen, and Jesper Schleimann Digital Transformation Officer Northern Europe at SAP. Through a series of 35 to 40-minute interviews with key digital decision makes, Lars Jacobsen and Jesper Schleimann will explore the difficulties, the challenges and the massive rewards that the accelerating digital age brings.
