In my view, dust also points to lo-fi, the lo-fi points to authenticity - realness in one form on another. Real for who? Cultural capital in cultural codes and markers. Yes yes, Barthes all over the place… quill to the paper trying to squeeze out all the realness of certain abjects… But no rule without exceptions, so there’s also a dash of old european high culture, low culture and some easiness thrown in for good measure. Hans Krüsli was an artist from Appenzell Switzerland, he wanted to become a gardener, but did not succeed, so he ended up selling roses for a long period of his life. At the age of 55 he began to make small paintings and record sounds from his everyday life. In this episode he acts as ‘ the prism of authenticity’ (with all the problems inherent in that). –– Ask The Dust is a Series that in different ways approaches themes like nostalgia, artistic intensions, nature, politics, domestic and spiritual matters mostly in form of music and other recorded material. Ask the Dust presents a platform of contemplation and reflection, that is open-ended and yet steadily focused on the Abject as a main point of departure. The series is initiated and produced by Claus Haxholm.
