What does “the cobbler’s kids have no shoes” actually mean? The idea behind this phrase is that someone with a specific skill, knowledge, or desire is often so busy assisting others that their own affairs go unattended. They fail to apply their expertise to the situations that they face and experience some consequences as a result How do we reconcile this concept with the saying “the more we give the more we receive”? To start, you can’t give to others what you don’t have for yourself. Forgiveness is a great example of something that you need to have for yourself first, in order to be forgiving of others. When it comes to receiving, our focus should be on appreciation and acknowledgment. When I say appreciation, I mean that you should try to add value to everything that you receive. You should also acknowledge what you’ve received and share your gratitude freely, especially for the things that others do not have.
