Orwell Country: In the Eye of the Storm (9/4/24)

Local news outlets here in Japan are reporting that extreme heat and humidity are altering the way people shop for goods, especially in Tokyo. News outlets in the United States are reporting that Phoenix, Arizona, is breaking heat records every day. The New York Times says bridges are collapsing because of Climate Change and others are reporting that humans are sick for the same reasons, not to mention schools in Detroit have sent kids home early due to heat. In all these cases are irony, of our affluent lifestyles being altered perceptually by inconvenient weather, and of a city named after a mythological bird of fire being... hot. It is negligent and ignorant to ignore poor infrastructure management, resource theft, poor food and diet, and why schools in America have so few resources like AC - or that other countries are totally fine without AC.
