Whether you recognize it or not many of our traditions and superstitions have a deep root in the ancient world. Practices like divination, to seek knowledge of the future by supernatural means, are as old as mankind and are still practiced today. There are many avenues for communing with spirits or predicting future outcomes, one of the most popular being the Ouija board. Apple bobbing is perhaps one of the most practiced though, along with catching flowers at a wedding. Divination has little of the original purpose, as it was a means to derive peace from a harsh world. From Beltane to Samhain, or Halloween, the central theme has been fire, sacrifice and divination of the future. As with any tough times, people turn to god, spirits and even politicians to help them.
