Our culture is saturated with cults, but modern movements are slightly different than some of the more famous groups and leaders. Today, cults can be formed easily online in a digital playground for cult leaders and cult followers alike, the latter of which seek to obtain acceptance and special information thought to be unavailable to anyone but a select few - they just happen to be chosen! The rhetoric around a cabal and alliance is archetypical of the forces of evil and good, or the empire and resistance in popular space movies. Aliens are discussed in the likeness of angels and demons and ascension replaces the idea of rapture. Certain books, often written by cult leaders, or stolen from genuine researchers, are held to be holy and not to be questioned. Any criticism, warranted or otherwise, is responded to with a general line of 'love and light' with a refusal to engage in further discussion.
