It is the time of year when gym floors are dominated by people embarking on new year goals, splurging on memberships, subscriptions, and state-of-the-art equipment in a bid to become the ultimate fitness fanatic. But despite starting the year with the best intentions, a quarter of people admit to giving up on their New Year’s fitness-related goals in previous years before the end of January - with four in ten acknowledging that their fitness targets won’t have the longevity to last until the summer.New data shows that over 40% of people admit to having wasted money on gym equipment or subscribing to a gym membership that they use less than they anticipated. Two-thirds (64%) admit to wasting £153.70 a year on both fitness equipment and gym membership – totalling almost £4 billion wasted each year across the entire UK.With the continued cost-of-living crisis – this year nearly six in ten people (59%) are evaluating how much financial resources they spend on health and wellbeing. To battle the increased pressure on people’s budgets, a fifth of people (21%) signal that they are looking for new ways to keep active in 2023, which doesn’t involve expensive gym memberships or the need for fancy gym equipment. To help the nation become more physically active, Sweatcoin is rewarding people by giving them currency in reward for daily steps. Users can earn 10p-50p for their 10,000 steps a day. And with nearly half (44%) of the nation participating in a simple walk to benefit their mental health, it’s a simple way to generate some savvy savings.
