Widely regarded as football’s 'nice guys’, with over 750 appearances including 11 years captaining Tottenham Hotspur, 16 caps for England, not half bad for someone who was told at age 17 that they’d never be able to pursue a career in football after being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
