Jack and the Beanstalk
The man Jack appears in a number of English folk tales. Often depicted as a lazy man or boy, Jack overcomes challenges and wins with trickery and cleverness. Of all the many stories featuring a variant of Jack, one is certainly the most famous: the story of Jack and the Beanstalk.
Originating some 5000 years ago, and first published in written-form in the 1700s, Jack and the Beanstalk is a story with many versions and deep roots.
