If you keep day dreaming about the life you want to live one day but keep powering through days that you hate because you’ve convinced yourself this is the only way to eventually reach your goals - your brain is playing tricks on you. The reality is that when we think about our goals, we tend to think about the money, the house, the # of people in the program - but we don’t think about why we want those things. How do you imagine you will feel when you wake up in the morning walking through your big house? What will your schedule look like when you finally have enough people in your group program? Will you finally go the yoga and cook the healthy meals once you have the time? When we leave those bits out of the conversation, we can find ourselves grinding harder than ever - because we’ve convinced ourselves we won’t have the life we want until we make the money. So the money and the success becomes the emergency exit and we are frantically searching for it, never even questioning if we could have what we want right here in this room. Why do we do that to ourselves? Because usually the meaningful work that it takes to move us toward what we actually want is scary and requires risk or vulnerability. So we choose the devil we know - a day to day life that makes us unhappy but that we’ve convinced ourselves is necessary to getting what we want.
