We do not want to let go of the idea that we need to do all of it, right now, and perfectly. We are stuck in a frantic mindset that is telling us we have SO much to do before we can get where we want to go. And being busy feels right because it is aligned with that frantic, overwhelmed energy. But the truth is, there is a simpler, more direct path. There is something you could be prioritizing that would get you 5 steps ahead. And everything in your being is going to tell you that it isn’t enough because it doesn’t require you to frantically run yourself into the ground (that’s what “real” work feels like, right? Wrong!). The other reason you will have a hard time prioritizing the things that should actually be taking up most of your energy is because often times, these things are vulnerable - and the reality that it may actually get you results is scary! You are in total control of your current situation - what if things actually start advancing at a pace you’re not use to? Will you be able to handle it? That’s what our subconscious is telling us, and it is keeping us from taking those meaningful, scary steps. So to make ourselves feel like we are doing something, we keep ourselves busy - which is our comfort zone - with strategy, and creating better systems, and crossing all the things off the list (usually behind the scenes, where our ideal clients can’t see us). The real key to working efficiently is not to create an elaborate plan to do it all. It is to to be willing to take the scary, direct route over the busy, safe route. It’s being confident in your decisions, putting yourself out there, and not getting distracted by everyone else’s advice.
