Ep. 18: We need to stop romanticising village life

On an all-new episode of “Uncle, Please Sit!” Joel and Tushar talk to – energy, land, and agriculture researcher– Nikhil Goveas, who also manages a farmer produce organization in rural Bihar. The topic of discussion this week is rural India.

For decades, there has been an idyllic, romanticised image associated with the villages of India. Is this a fair representation? Does this idealistic image gloss over the horrors that many, especially those from disadvantaged groups, experience in these parts? Does it give policymakers an excuse to neglect these regions?

The discussion delves into many such questions and also explores how access to technology, better education, and cheaper internet is helping rural Indians improve their lives. Click through for more!

From holding court in drawing rooms they have moved on to the much wider canvas of Whatsapp forwards. Who are these people who confidently squeeze out rubbish from everything they have read on twitter? On this podcast, Editor and Creative Producer Joel Pereira along with the Writer and Stand-up Comedian Tushar Abhichandani, attempt to counter them, along with the barrage of misguided opinions we are often inundated with from all sides. As Joel and Tushar peel the layers and misinformation of "Beta, you should do this and that", you will hear them say "Uncle, Please sit". Tune in to the new episodes every Monday.
