Allocution is a noun that refers to a formal speech. Our word of the day’s origin is with the word allocū (ah LO coo) which is Latin for ‘address.’ Allocution is best used in a formal context. Cathy’s allocution was quite elegant. Her ability to express herself in a somber, formal occasion is admirable.
