Incommode is a verb that means to disturb or inconvenience. The Latin word commodus (COMB moe doos) means convenient. By adding the prefix I-N, we get a word the means inconvenient. After taking on the form of a verb, our word of the day entered English in the late 16th century. I didn’t mean to incommode you, but I felt the phone call was important enough to disrupt the meeting.
