28. "The books might have been there but the people were gone" - Finn Ballard

This week we're travelling back 100 years to Berlin with Finn. Finn Ballard (he/him) is a trans man, originally from Ireland, now based in Berlin who specializes in the LGBTI+ history of the city which he retells as a tour guide at Finn Ballard Tours. In this episode, Finn talks about the pre Nazi era of LGBTI+ emancipation in Germany (our favorite story is about a trans man in Cologne who announced his dead name in the local newspaper) and how the Nazi's ultimately destroyed important archival material including that of the Institute for Sexual Science (visited by Lili Elbe), the contents of which were burned on Hitler's 100th day in power.Listen now for an important tour through our collective history, and you'll maybe find an ancestor that you didn't know about.Finn hosts a Zoom 'History Club' every Sunday at 7pm CET which you can find out more about here: www.facebook.com/finnballardtours/ or here: http://www.finn-ballard-tours.com/Special thanks to Finn for taking part!Your host is Anders Larsen - also known as the drag queen Chantal al Arab.
